Not only will numerous christmas markets open their stands end of November to welcome Munich’s people to a cup of hot “Glühwein” (hot wine punch) but also the Winter version of the famous Munich institution, the Tollwood Winter Festival, opens its tents.
Tollwood stands for a unique mix of cultural programm, (organic) food from all over the world, markets offering arts and crafts and many more bigger and smaller entertainment events on the festival area. This “Market of Ideas” is all gathered under the idealistic umbrella of a greener, fairer and more diverse city.
What to expect?
This broad range of things to do and see and taste and hear and smell offers possibilities for everyone, small and grown, young and old, to spend a great time there with their families and friends. Especially during the cold and dark weeks before Christmas, the festival enchants its visitors with colourful lights and memorable sensations.
The motto of this year’s Tollwood Winterfestival is »Clean is keen!« which makes waste and recycling a subject of discussion. HA Schult’s noted installation »Trash People« welcomes the festival visitors at the entrance. Plastic pollution in oceans is the main topic at the Weltsalon.
You will find a green pavillion presenting environmental initiatives, an Indian Market with Ayurveda treatments, a RepairCafé, and many more.
With »Cirkopolis« – performed by the legendary Cirque Éloize – the festival features an amazing show that combines the worlds of circus, theatre and dance at the Grand Chapiteau.
The kids dedicated programm offers many workshops to do crafts, arts and learn about recycling and the environment in a playful manner.
An overview of all events, concerts, activities and shows can be found here.
It is located on the famous “Oktoberfest” area, the Theresienwiese, and can be reached directly by U4/5.
