It’s Advents season! And that means Christmas markets all over town turn the magic right up.

There are 24 Christmas markets in Munich, most of them open everyday. Such as the large Christmas market around Marienplatz, the magical Christmas village in the Residenz or the medieval market on Wittelsbacherplatz.

 

But doesn’t mulled wine taste the best after a long walk through snowy landscape?

Here are some ideas for a Christmas market weekend foray to Munich’s surroundings.

 

Herrmannsdorfer christmas market – arts and crafts

It is recommended to take the shuttle bus from the parking lot at Grafing S-Bahn Bahnhof (every 15 minutes). Also when coming by car, please leave it at the station and take the shuttle.

This is a unique market with more than 100 market stands, where sculptors, goldsmiths, woodturners, ceramists, painters and felt and textile artists (and many more) sell their lovingly produced pieces and demonstrate their craftsmansship. They have children’s entertainment, farm animals and, of course, delicious food.

 

Ebersberger Forst Woidmarkt – hidden under trees

Located in the middle of the forest this traditional Christmas market is truly magical. Whether you walk through the forest or take a ride with the horse carriage, the freshly made ginger bread and deer gulash will never taste better.

 

 

Christkindlmarkt Bad Tölz – Old town market

This market is surrounded by the charming architecture of the historical old town with its narrow cobbled lanes. Among the regional specialties, handmade jewellery and handcarved figures you will surely find one or the other Christmas present.

 

Adventszauber am Tegernsee – Market tour over the lake

Up for a Christmas market tour? The markets of Wiessee, Rottach-Egern and Tegernsee are all located at the lakefront of Tegernsee. For 8 Euro you can shuttle between them by boat.

Let yourself be enchanted by the wonderful view of snow-capped mountains and christmas lights reflecting on the water. Besides handcrafts and Christmas delicacies the Christmas markets also offer live music.
